History
Laurent's mother died young, her health frail after she had given birth to Laurent. He doesn’t remember her face. His father raised him on his own, never got remarried, and eventually his brother (Laurent’s uncle) helped him out by babysitting him and caring for him when Laurent’s father worked. The cycle continued of Laurent’s uncle picking him up, his father working, his father picking him up again when he’s done with work, and they spend time together. Laurent’s father got into a car accident on his way home from work on a very rainy day. His uncle took custody of Laurent, and Laurent didn’t mind. Laurent was young, and didn’t really understand what being dead really meant, so he started missing his dad a lot. This went on for a while.
His uncle helped Laurent get his mind off his father, because why would you want a kid to stay miserable for so long? Being miserable didn’t help with making friends either, so Laurent was very friendless in his elementary school years. This is why his uncle got Laurent to play cards with him--hanafuda in particular. Laurent watched his uncle play with his friends at first before his interest was piqued. They usually played with monopoly money. As time passed, Laurent eventually learned how to curbstomp his uncle when he got really lucky, which was often. His uncle was surprised, and taught him more card games on the standard 52-deck.
In middle school, Laurent usually played cards with his classmates during lunch. They sometimes bet with their lunch money and he accumulated so much to the point where he just gave it all back when lunch ended. Playing games with others, cards or not, helped Laurent break out of the lonely shell starting from middle school years. He also developed a keen eye for cheating, because bullying is always an inevitable when you stand out. He even had to learn how to use secret cameras because nobody is satisfied unless obvious proof is had. Had to learn to defend himself too, because they sometimes go the physical route.
In high school, his life was a lot calmer than in middle school at first, hopefully with how people matured(?). However, he started liking a friend, but the closer he got, the more distant she became. He found out the reason why—her family was in debt to this gang and they were in big trouble because said debt got so large. She was kidnapped to hold as ransom against the family, but Laurent found out about this and tried very hard to rescue her because her family couldn’t do anything. However, there’s only so much you can do as a high school kid against twenty something adults with weapons. They barely managed to escape, but she died before reaching the hospital and Laurent was left in critical condition.
Laurent gradually recovered and his uncle kept him company whenever he could. No one else visited. He didn’t want to fall behind on his studies, so he continued his schooling through online classes when he could finally use his arms and hands again. The incident was kept under wraps, and that he was absent from the institution for an entire year. He graduated from high school when he finished his senior year while lying low after recovering. He also started gambling around this time—just not in casinos. He knew a lot of rich old guys from his uncle's connections who wanted to see how he played. So they did with money on the line. He didn’t have enough scholarships to cover his university tuition, so this was another way to get money. He usually won and collected thousands of dollars a night. They meet up once or twice a year.
At the age of 21, he attended a dealer’s school and landed himself a job at the casino that’s merged with a very good quality hotel where celebrities are known to stay. Even though the pay is minimum wage, he works during peak hours and people who are able to afford said hotel usually means they’re rich and they give tips in large amounts. He still works at the casino, but is also currently a university teacher after getting his teaching certificate. He double majored in education and english with a minor in sociology, yet his office is in the literature building along with his classroom. He sometimes integrates humanities into the English classes.
Laurent found out that he was a Concept when his co-worker, a fellow teaching assistant that looks like a kid, Nouvel Estienne, showed up at his front doorstep and asked him to end Memory’s Game as "End". He explained what a Concept was, which was basically an existence that controlled a world's function, similar to gods, but they wouldn't be able to affect each other... mostly. Nouvel was Death while Laurent was End.
Laurent was brought to something akin to a dimensional pocket where he met other Concepts. The game consisted of finding Memory and killing them by using someone else to act as their stand-in. Laurent held off on playing the game for a long time, until he realized that he had been going through the same week multiple times and the only way to break the cycle was to kill Memory. He's been living through time loops of the same week and he thought he was losing his mind with how the more normal people were acting as if nothing had happened. Laurent tried to interfere on his own without using a stand-in, because the other Concepts started using his close friends for their own gains. One of his close friends, Hyunjung Kang, ended up dying in every time loop some way or another because of this game. He broke the rules by participating as himself, so he was punished by being imprisoned in a separate dimension of its own for a while when caught.

Prospective Endings
Cause: Laurent doesn't return to his home world and stays on the island forever.
Effect: Memory's Game never ends, because the possibility of anything ending is impossible with Laurent being absent from the world and alive. Memory keeps repeating the time loops until the world can no longer handle the time loops activated by Memory instead of Time, and it breaks, effectively destroying the world. Everyone dies.
Ending B
Cause: Laurent returns to his home world but everything stays the same and runs its projected course. aka this is the "canon" ending.
Effect: Laurent eventually breaks free of the dimensional prison, and is eventually persuaded/manipulated by Destruction, a top dog Concept, to play in Memory's Game. He becomes the Concept Aide for Mihyun Kang, Hyunjung's older sister (Hyunjung is the one who keeps dying every time loop), in the tenth time loop. He exploits the Concept maturity loophole with Eternity, who keeps Laurent's Concept pre-maturation state in a stasis, yet gathers enough "time" by fucking up the timeline without Time being around to set him straight--enabling him to set a single, powerful "End" function. He gives that function to Mihyun, who is able to barge into the Concepts' plane of existence to end their existence directly.
Unfortunately, while all that's happening, Hyunjung's death couldn't be prevented, because he wanted to help Miyoung, his close friend who was dragged into this horrible game, after being manipulated by Lucas, the actual protagonist of the story. Lucas also made a deal with Destruction to convert Hyunjung's soul into a Concept, but on an ascended even higher plane of existence as an Overseer. Hyunjung's newly formed restrictions had exiled him from his home world permanently.
In the end, Memory dies, and Mihyun takes up the mantle of becoming Memory herself as most Concepts who died by her hands returned to the world's core. Laurent succeeded in his revenge, but due to consequences with fucking up timelines, he's barred from setting foot into the world with everyone else, and can only spectate from the original higher plane of existence--a single blue room, a couch, and a TV. He writes letters to his uncle every now and then, and Mihyun delivers them for him.
tldr; People die, Concepts die, Laurent can never see his uncle again, his friend is banned from coming back to this world ever again. Feels lonely, man.
Ending C
Cause: Laurent develops differently in Vella or other external factors happen that change the course of the story.
Effect: ???
